Whether we like it or not, it seems we will all be home 24/7 for the unforeseeable future.
This morning, I listened to a podcast featuring Pastor Ben Stuart, who said this about Genesis 1, the account of the creation of the world, in light of our current situation:
“[In Genesis 1] God took chaos and he built structure for the sake of flourishing, and then he told man and woman, ‘Cultivate. Move the physical things that are under your control into a position where you thrive and are fruitful.’”
I had already planned this post before listening to that, but wow how those words have stuck with me and though it may not seem like it, bring me to share this post with you today.
So why post about something as silly as fashion in this world that is hurting so deeply?
First off, because I hope it at least makes you smile 🙂
Secondly, because Ben Stuart is right. God’s charge to us is the same as it was in the garden: to be a good steward of the things placed in front of us for God’s ultimate glory.
I believe it is SO important to listen to ourselves and what we need to do to succeed and do well in wherever we are at right now, in order that we can do the work the Lord has placed in front of us.
And I find for me that looks like waking up, spending time in prayer and reading the bible, making my bed, and getting ready for the day, same as I would when things were normal. And I’ve noticed finding routines and rhythms can make such a difference on how I go through my day.
One step in that routine and rhythm for me is changing out of my pajamas **gasp** and getting dressed in the morning. I love how it automatically puts me into a more productive mindset, and I’m here to encourage you to maybe not knock it till you try it. Below are some of my favorite ways to feel comfy enough to work/attend school from home WITHOUT the sweats.
But that’s enough of me talking. Let’s get to the outfits!!
1. Dress it up!
I’ve always been a big fan of dresses for everyday wear because you can roll out of bed, throw on a comfy dress, and everyone suddenly thinks you’re on top of it. The same can apply here too people!
I’ve been loving the increase in casual dresses recently (hello, Outdoor Voices!), and this look is easy to replicate and make your own. Grab your favorite simple dress and a cozy sweater and you’re ready for zoom classes, or even a fancy dinner in 🙂
2. Allll the Athleisure
This look is perfect for everything from those afternoon walks outside that we’re suddenly all taking to grabbing a quick workout between Zoom meetings! Athleisure is another great way to be comfy while still looking put together.
3. #QuaranJEANS
I know what some of the college students are thinking – I don’t even wear jeans to class in – person, what makes me want to wear them now?! But going back to my first points, some days putting on jeans is what I need to feel like I am doing good and productive work that day.
And wearing jeans doesn’t have to be totally miserable. In this picture, I’m wearing one of my favorite pairs of thrifted jeans that are stretchy and broken in. I paired it with a soft striped shirt, and it took no time at all. Not to mention, it’s ~almost~ as comfortable as my sweats.
4. Some Layering Love
I don’t know where you’re reading this from, but here in Texas we’ve had the air conditioning running for at least the past 2 weeks.
Layering pieces is a simple way to elevate your look while staying cozy. For example, here I’m wearing a basic Aerie romper (that I think is technically supposed to be pajamas) with a thrifted sweater I’ve been loving.
The result – a comfortable outfit perfect for when the AC gets to be just a little too chilly.
5. Your favorite pre-quarantine pieces and looks
These are my favorite pants. They make me smile every time I wear them. Why not keep wearing the things you just really love wearing?!
I challenge you to find your favorite sweater/pants/dress/accessory and figure out a way to wear it in your current work/school from home environment!
Exhibit A:
6. Just keep those pajamas on and ROCK IT!!
Because let’s face it, some days the world and the to-do list in front of us feel just a little bit too heavy, and simply getting out of bed feels impossible. I understand. I hear you.
I am NOT trying to judge you or tell you that you cannot successfully work/go to class from home in sweats or those trusty PJs. And if that is what you’re needing, I’m not going to stop you.
I give you these options because I’ve felt the difference in my attitude towards the day when I’ve gotten ready to go, even if the “going” is from my bedroom to the living room couch.
I hope these looks inspired you, or at least brought a little light and comfort and laughter into your day!! Stay safe and, honestly,
